In an interview with “Allure” magazine, the 61-year-old star shared the unusual story, which took place while filming the third season. Inspired by her hairstylist — and a few drinks — she made a drastic change to her look.
According to Hargitay, she showed up to work with a brand-new haircut — a very short pixie cut — that the show’s producers didn’t like at all.
“My hairstylist had a glass of wine, and I really should have known better,” Hargitay said. “Maybe he thought I’d be more aerodynamic when chasing criminals. I have no idea. We went with very short — shorter than planned. I was almost fired,” she revealed.
Taking her tipsy hairstylist’s suggestion and showing up with a new haircut without warning anyone nearly cost Hargitay her job.
Since 1999, Hargitay has portrayed Olivia Benson, one of television’s most beloved characters. Alongside Ice-T, who joined the series in 2000 as Sergeant “Fin,” she is now preparing for the premiere of the 27th season of “Law & Order: SVU” in September.
